Boiling Crab is an in-class group that cultivated a “land:” a parklet, an escape room, and a market. The group transformed two-dimensional plans and artworks into three-dimensional renderings using SketchUp, then translated the projects into real life activations with community guests.
Class Group Assignment. August 2025 - December 2025

1. PARKLETS
The first project, the parklets were created for the for different college grades and their cooking necessities they might face on campus. This made the parklets unique while having a cohesive theme of the group: food and cooking.

2. ESCAPE ROOM
The escape room, The Magical Seasonal Cabin, comes from the idea of incorporating the seasonality of the foods in each room. It stems from the group's overall theme and it is a continuation from the parklets. The activation turned 3D renderings into a realistic, playable escape room in a classroom setting.

3. MARKET
The Market, Coffee 360, started with the idea of an interactive dining experience. This concept led to an education bar within the cafe where customers can make their own coffee at a discounted price. This provides accessibility to coffee education and equipment to those that might not be able to afford such services. The concept also focused on seasonal ingredients for another through-line of seasonality in foods.
3D Market dimension: 50' x 60' x 10'
The team hosted a micropilot, translating the 3D concepts to a real life activation. People from the community were able to come in, making the experience as realistic as possible. As for the drinks, the seasonality was in autumn and the specialty flavors for the lattes we curated were: caramel apple, persimmon maple, and sweet potato. Based on those flavors, we created t-shirt merch and stickers. By the end of the 1 hour micropilot, the team distributed 30 drinks, 60 stickers, and 8 t-shirts, selling out of all of the products.
